Wareham is an historic Saxon town, situated on a strategic drypoint between the River Piddle and the River Frome. The town walls and ramparts were built by Alfred the Great in the ninth century to defend the town from the Danes.
Today however the center of the town is focused on the Quay, and the numerous activities held throughout the year here. The main event is the annual carnival which takes place in July including a parade, fireworks and music by Quay. Throughout July and August every Wednesday there are events, music, concerts and canoeing regattas down the river. Family fun for all!
Hire of canoes and motorboats can take you down the river to Poole Harbour which are ever popular.
